Ecolabels: who are they and can they be neutral?

ecolabel

Have you ever ventured into the world of ecological labels? As you may have noticed, little green logos are everywhere these days. And it is sometimes difficult to make sense of them. What if we told you that Ecogarantie is a neutral label? But how is this possible? We will explain it all to you!

How do we define the term ecolabel?

You have probably already typed in your search bar “ecolabel definition”. And today we’re going to help you understand this field better! An ecolabel is an environmental label that is attributed to products or services that meet specific environmental standards. Ecolabels are used to help consumers identify products that have a lower environmental impact than other similar products.

The criteria for obtaining an eco-label and thus an eco-certification may vary depending on the product or service concerned. They may include energy consumption standards, greenhouse gas emissions, use of toxic or harmful substances, water or waste management, and impact on biodiversity, among others.

Ecolabels are usually attributed by independent organizations or governments, which examine products or services against strict environmental criteria before allowing the label to be used.

The European Ecolabel, on the other hand, is governed by the European Union’s Regulation of 25 November 2009. The European Ecolabel was established to promote products and services with a reduced environmental impact. It is recognized by all countries of the European Union and all market participants can claim it.

As you will have understood, there is the European ecolabel but there are also independent eco-labels, which follow their own rules. They bring even more rigor and criteria to be respected in the control.

Why is it important to be an eco-neutral label?

You are probably wondering what we mean by “eco-neutral”? Well, our label is attributed to committed companies, which allows them to share ecological values with you. When you buy an eco-labeled product, you can be sure that it respects the environment, animals, and people. But… how do we decide which product deserves our label? As a neutral eco-label, Ecogarantie does not carry out any checks on compliance with our specifications. This is the role of three professional inspection bodies with whom we work closely. These are Certisys, TUV Nord, and Quality Partner. They are responsible for checking the companies that wish to join our association. They check the quality of their products and their production cycle. Then they make a report and according to this report, they have the power to deliver the ecological certification to the operator or not. By the way, in a previous article, we explained how the certification process works. It’s that easy to stay neutral!

However, this is not the case for all eco-labels. Most of them control the products themselves and do not guarantee a neutral and independent ecological certification. We do not question these practices, but we consider ourselves to be one of the strictest labels in Europe, thanks to this neutrality.

You may wonder why this whole process is important. As a neutral ecolabel, we have to be honest and transparent. We want to make sure that the Ecogarantie-labelled products meet strict standards so that there are no conflicts of interest or preferential treatment. Most importantly, we want you to know how it all works so that you can trust our eco-labeled brands.

By deciding not to carry out the inspection ourselves, we provide consumers with additional reliability and security. We do not interfere in any way with the auditing process, so products are awarded our label without us having any say in the matter. If the operator does not meet the criteria of our specifications, the inspection body will decide not to award the label. We have a 100% neutral position! In addition to this, we should not forget that the independent body that carries out the audit is made up of real expert professionals. They have a lot of experience in the field of certification and have similar values to ours as an ecolabel.

Thanks to this, consumers can buy REAL ecological products, with a safe and reliable eco-label.

Ecolabel: progress for health and the planet!

As you have understood, ecolabels allow us to reassure the consumer and to propose healthy alternatives with beautiful compositions. And when the ecolabel is neutral, it’s even better. So you can imagine that for the health and well-being of our customers, this is the best solution to adopt. What could be better than having healthy and reliable products on the market? They are real alternatives to all the chemicals and harmful substances that we can find nowadays.

But for the planet, the eco-label is also a great development and a real commitment. Indeed, for most eco-labels, the criteria do not stop at the composition of the product. This is the case for Ecogarantie. The specifications go much further, by proposing compliance with various criteria. For example, at the production level, we advocate the sustainable management of water, electricity, and waste management. We strongly recommend the use of renewable energy to our members. Members must have ethical and sustainable practices, similar to ours. We do not limit ourselves to the product they manufacture but to their entire environmental approach and commitment to the planet.

To minimize environmental impact, our strengths lie in the fact that all ingredients must be biodegradable and packaging recycled and recyclable.

With such commitments, we ensure that beyond the compositions, the products respect the planet and the ecosystem. The ecolabel is a force for health, for the planet, and for the well-being of consumers.

As you can see, the eco-label is a real source of security and reliability for the consumer. Consumers can be sure that they have a guarantee when they buy a so-called “ecological” product. The product is, and it is certified! When the ecolabel is neutral, it is additional proof of healthy composition and minimum impact on the environment. Indeed, it is not the ecolabel that controls the products of its members. As it is an independent organization, this allows for total neutrality. You can go for it with your eyes closed!
