The Atlas cedar is native to North Africa. In the distant past, it also lived in Europe in its natural state. It tolerates the cold very well and its port is more erect and slender than the cedar of Lebanon. Its needles are bluish, its branches are ascending and shorter than those of other cedars; its bark is light gray and cracks with age; its cones are 6 cm long, with a small hollow in the center.
