The name cajeput comes from the Malaysian ‘kayu putih’, meaning white wood, in reference to the white trunk of the tree. Several varieties of the genus Melaleuca are used for the distillation of the essential oil. Cajuput essential oil clears the respiratory tract and soothes the throat. It softens the muscles and relieves local itching.
