Authorized ingredients
100% organic ingredients
The selection of the ingredients is based on the principles of sustainability and ecological responsibility. Agricultural vegetable ingredients (raw materials and semi-manufactured products) are organically grown unless it can be proven that they are not available. If such is the case, it will be mentioned in the Ecogarantie specifications.
Origin of ingredients
The origin of ingredients must meet the strict criteria set forth in the specifications. Raw materials and semi-manufactured products may only be processed through very restricted ecological processes.
Renewable materials
Raw materials must be renewable where possible. Furthermore, any superfluous form of packaging must be avoided and recyclable or reusable packaging must be used whenever possible.

Restricted ingredients
No halogen chemistry
To cut a long story short, the halogens are a group in the periodic table consisting of five chemically related elements: fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine and astatine. Elemental halogens are dangerous and can potentially be lethally toxic. That’s the reason why Ecogarantie forbids the use of halogen chemistry in the labelled products.
No GMO
A Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) refers to any organism whose genetic material has been altered using engineering techniques. The Ecogarantie specifications are very strict regarding the GMO’s. The use of GMO’s or GMO techniques in the production chain is strictly forbidden by Ecogarantie.
No VOC
The abbreviation VOC stands for Volatile Organic Components. They are organic chemicals that have a high vapor pressure at ordinary room temperature. As they can be dangerous for the health and the environment, they are forbidden in the Ecogarantie specifications.
No petrochemicals
The transforming process of petroleum into petrochemicals is a very polluting process which releases toxic particles into the atmosphere and which damages nature. Moreover, when present in large quantities in a product, these substances can be dangerous for your health and the environment. As they are not safe for the ecosystem, Ecogarantie guarantees that labelled products do not contain such chemicals.

Zero waste
No energy waste
Protecting health and environment are core values for us. Ecology is not only fostered for the finished products, but also during the whole production process. Our brands are encouraged to use the energy sparingly by choosing processes that limit the energy consumption.
Minimal sourcing waste
Sourcing raw materials can deeply affect the environment. In this respect, our brands are encouraged to adopt a responsible sourcing policy. Raw materials used in labelled products must be sourced responsibly, with minimal sourcing waste and with zero deforestation.
Optimal recycling
As aforementioned, ecology is not only required for the finished products, but also during the whole production process. Ecogarantie recommends a high level of recycling at every production stage to protect the environment. Companies are, for example, encouraged to use recyclable or reusable packaging.

Respect for nature
Low emissions
The production process involves emissions which impact the environment. Reducing these emissions brings significant health and environmental benefits. It is therefore evident that our brands must make sure their emissions are as low as possible.
Reasonable transport
Transport of goods deeply impacts the environment because of gas emissions, so choosing for reasonable transport is the solution. Hence, our brands are encouraged to organize their transport in such way to reduce emissions as much as possible. Besides, they must use local suppliers whenever possible to minimize environmental impacts.
No toxicity
Our specifications forbid the use of any toxic ingredient. These can be harmful to the consumers’ health and can destroy the ecosystem.
Good biodegradability
Another way to protect the environment is the biodegradability. It is in this regard that our standards recommend a good biodegradability of both anaerobic and aerobic without stable metabolites. These are bacteria that are biodegradable without any other ingredient needed.
